Testing Rugby Skills at Scotland Mini-Festival The relentless Scottish wind gave us the perfect excuse to get moving at our Scotland Mini Fest Tournaments last week! On the 25th and 26th of March 2026, just before schools head into their mid‑term break, we brought students together for two brilliant days of rugby, teamwork, and confidence‑building. It was amazing to see SOHK participants put what they've learned on our programme into practice. In Scotland's East, nearly 100 enthusiastic students from across three schools joined us at Edinburgh Accies home ground for a day of competition, bonding, and games. Not only did they demonstrate an eagerness and passion for rugby, but they fully embodied our 3Cs: Confidence, Connection and Control. These principles shape every 1:1 mentoring moment, classroom personal development session, and outdoor activity across our two-year programme - all with the goal of boosting school engagement while also helping our young people to develop key skills for life. Roisin Murray, Regional Manager for SOHK, said: “We’re really proud of the boys today. Many only joined SOHK this year, yet they’ve already shown real progress in their teamwork, connection and control. For some, it was their first ever rugby match, so seeing them rise to the challenge was brilliant.” "Even though we were a bit worried, because some of the boys are older," said one of the boys, "we managed to win some games - so it was quite good!" The next day in Scotland's West, our students brought their best and were fully engaged, despite the cold weather! SOHK Facilitator Jack Burgoyne said, "There was some excellent rugby on display, with all players showcasing the skills they have developed over the past two terms. We welcomed around 100 students, both boys and girls, from four schools: Trinity High School, Smithycroft High School, Whitehill Secondary School, and St Paul’s R.C. High School." Brian from West of Scotland Rugby Club said: “The SOHK team are a credit to the charity, the connection they have with the kids is superb, and you can tell how much the kids value that. Really inspiring today!” Roisin Murray added: "We have two strong teams cemented in Scotland East and Scotland West and look forward to continued growth particularly in the Glasgow area. We couldn't do this without support from our valued supporters including the Rocco Trust. "We have seen an increase in attendance and high academic achievement for those who had previously struggled. They have all done themselves proud and we are delighted to stand at the sidelines watching them thrive." These festivals are key stepping‑stones toward May’s national tournament, at Broadwood Stadium where students will continue to build pride in their achievements. This year, our team is celebrating 9 years of SOHK in Scotland.
